The 9th grade team placed 2nd in the Erie Saints Tournament this weekend. Here they are sporting their new warm-up jerseys which were kindly donated by Jasmine Doxey’s family. Jasmine’s mom and dad surprised us this week in practice donating these Under Armor warm-up jerseys for the girls. In the semi-final game of the tournament, we had a rematch of the NDO-Hornets, a national team that earlier beat us by one point in the championship game of the Buffalo Tournament. This time around we beat them 38-49 with all 10 players on the roster having at least a basket. Danielle Hore and Elizabeth Hill both scored in double digits with 12 and 11 points respectively. We faced a very talented Drill 4 Skill team out of Pittsburgh in the championship game. We hung with them for the first half but they pulled away in the second half with a final score of 25-54. Very proud of all the Defenders teams over the weekend!
Another tough opponent sent us to defeat #3 and a quick exit. Looking forward to the Finger Lakes Tournament next weekend. Tough opponent from Pittsburgh took it to us. The loss dropped our record to 0-2. Our Defenders toke their first lead of the game half way into the second half, but could not hold off a determined PA Thunder team. Highlight of the game was Jenna Faulkner scored her 1,000 point in her Buffalo Defender career. She is the only player ever to do that. A very convincing victory against the Rochester Royals completed our tournament with a final record of 3-1, good for second place. Congrats to Cassie Kamens from our 8th grade team scoring a field goal as time was winding down, Another nail-biter but our team won there second game of the tournament against the STNYFLYERS. Another close game slipped away in the second half, evened our record to 1-1 for the tournament. A 1 point victory over the Rochester Monarchs was our first victiry in Game 1 this season. |
